TULA

henry sy at gokongwei eto't tubong lugaw

pakileño'y iniintay pagdating ng bisperas
lahat ay uuwi sa bayang kay aliwalas
ang iba'y magpapa gas at iba'y magba bus
huwag lamang sanang kampana'y dudublas

pag dating ng hatinggabi kabataan ay tabi-tabi
suut-suot ang damit na kanilang nabili
paboritong sapatos na adidas at nike
ang siyang kanilang ipinagmamalaki

kay sarap isipin ang nakagisnang kultura
huwag sanang mabahiran at maging banyaga

Malalaking isdang huli, kanyang pipiliin,

. . (bow)

Kung ikaw ay pupunta ng Pakil;
Sa dulo ng walang hanggan ang
iyong tigil;
Upuan mo'y tiyak na mag iinit,
Kung galing kang USTE hanggang
bus ay di' na umabante;

Pero, pero, pero hindi maiinip,
Sa ganda ng tanawin
at sarap ng ihip ng hangin;

Si Joyce, Joybe, Kikay, Au at Ako,
Patungo sa mga Regalado,
Taun-taon bakasyon ay areglado;

Masarap na tsibog twing pista ay sasapit;
Akyat ng bundok sa mahal na araw
kami'y kapit-kapit;
Sa Turumba kami din ay sadyang naakit;
Sa Mahal na Birhen kami'y
sumayaw at umawit;
Pati sagala kami ay napasabit;
Buti na lang kahit paano'y
kami ay kaakit-akit; (he…he…he)

Tuloy ang kaligayahan,
Lalo na kung matitikman
ang Paliguan ng Bayan;
Napakalinaw ng katubigan,
Libag at alat nami'y tiyak na nagtanggalan;

O Pakil, sadyang kami'y binihag mo;
Lalo na ng makilala ang malalambing
at simpatikong ginoo;
Sana'y dito na kaming totoong-totoo

Pagkalipas ng maraming taon;
Kanya-kanyang buhay kami'y nagkaroon

Kailan kaya muling mapaparoon?

Buong barkada muling pupunta;
Sa Bayang sadyang pinagpala…

Pakil, hanggang sa muling pagkikita!!!

bow….

Pakil Online Community History

On November 13, 2000 the first Pakil Intranet was created. It lasted for a couple of years with a total of almost 100 plus registered members. The Pakil Intranet served as a file sharing and discussion board site for Pakilenos globally. The Intranet provider started to charge for fee that is why we decided to moved to another intranet provider that is free.(we keep it for sometime by sharing on the monthly fee)

Now comes the Smartgroups/Pakil.com The Pakileno group online grew a little bit in numbers and little bit in participations. Smartgroup/Pakil.com became the virtual meeting place of Pakilenos in Pakil, from Asia, N. America, Middle East and Europe. Some projects were conceptualized in the discussion board. Some local issues were supported thru the forum. The intranet/discussion board was the merging point of Pakilenos getting involved in Pakil virtually. It lasted online from 3rd quarter of 2003 to last quarter of 2005 until the provider decided to close shop.

Pakil World Wide/Officezilla.com was created last quarter of 2006 when Smartgroup closed shop. The Intranet was another free service providing forum and file sharing with a much better forum interface. The Pakil Forum went offline last week of October 2007.

In all of these Pakil Online activity, the virtual experienced brought Pakilenos living in different places around the globe together. Some Pakilenos rediscovered their roots, their relatives and Pakil itself.

On the other hand while these intranet was in existence there are also other Pakileno website who became a good source of information about Pakil, it's people and culture. You can check out the Lava Family website and Buddy Valero's Pakil Page.

Note: If I missed some important dates feel free to leave comments under comment section. Thanks.

One Afternoon in Pakil- Musiko Rehearsal

Manuel (Maning) Rarela on solo Sax and the 2 PMP students, one on sax the other student on trumpet sitting by ka Fide Abayari. Coming together of old and new-students and teachers playing together with other veteran Pakil musiko.

Ka Maning is a world class, well traveled musician around the globe. He was a band leader when he was based in Hong Kong. While Ka Fide is now retired and used to be a band leader/conductor for the Philippine Military Band. Both are now actively involved in Pakil Music Program as Local Coordinators and teachers together with Greg R. Kaharian(on trombone).
Also in the video: Monching Pasang(Sax), Boy Silvestre(guitar), Ato Aclan(trombone), Marcel Asinas (veteran/retired bassist from Hong Kong circuit-natawag din- he keeps complaining about his athritis, at wala daw siyang practice for a long time, but he did great. Watch the other video. They played Thrilller), Eric Salem (It was an impromtu performance for him too. Natawag lang din siya coz the original drummer was not available. It was really impressive.That's the advantage if you know how to read music notes. Pagkabigay ng piyesa tugtugan na! :-)

What or Who are You Thankful for?

There will be an estimated 50 million people travelling by air or by car in US to celebrate Thanksgiving holiday. It is the time of the year to be with family and celebrate this very special holiday. Originally or traditionally a day of prayer and to give thanks for the conclusion of the harvest season. Thanksgiving is normally celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. For Pinoys the center of family gathering is Christmas for Americans it is the Thanksgiving Day.

Some refer to Thanksgiving as turkey day or the kick off day for Christmas shopping. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

It is just below the chatbox. Please don't forget to cast your vote.
Let's hear what your think....

Diamond Anniversary

How many times have you heard of a diamond anniversary? Diamond anniversary, as in 60 year celebration of being married together. Wow... That's amazing! We normally hear of couples celebrating golden (but in this age and time that is also a rarity). It seems that those kind of couples are endangered species now a days. For all married couples we could probably learn and get some tips from them. Let us all congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Inigo Vito for keeping their wedding bows together for 60 years. May God continue to bless them and the whole family with love and good health.

Forum,Chatbox...

At this time, there is no full functioning forum associated in Global Pakil site. I, myself, and hopefully some volunteers will get together to figure out what is the best forum fits Pakil community online.

There are a lot of free forum services we can avail but I don't intend to jump on it yet. I am hoping if we open another one it will be a lasting one if not forever. FYI...We've been using it since year 2000 if you don't know. I also want to hear from the leaders of our communities...anong say nyo :-)

For those of you who were frequent users/readers/contributors and actively participated in discussions knows the importance of such venue. As I've mentioned on my previous posting forum/message board whatever you call it, is an important medium to get your message across.

I admire some communities who uses the medium to their advantage, namely- brainstorming, developing project proposals,and implementations, sharing helpful ideas, may it be in education, science and technology, common remedies to ailments, stress relieving stories, jokes, etc. I saw community members having a heated disagreements, and compromise at the end. Those are the facet, I think of a good communications. We can learn a lot from them. I've been a member of some international
communities operating in different parts of the world and we all do our discussions, planning online thru message board or forum. I am a frequent users of this kind of media, normally visiting them if I have questions with regards to work related issues(technology and education).

I would like to commend all of you by giving your time, talent and treasure and involving yourselves in anyway possible to help our beloved Pakil.

Puwede kayong mag iwan ng comments and reaction or simpleng pagbati dyan sa chatbox sa right side ng page or gamitin nyo yung comment feature nitong blog habang wala pang full working forum itong site.

Pakil Trade and Tourism

Sa vicinity ng Plaza Rizal ay dumarami ang mga eateries and snack bars, hamburger stands and cold drinks parlor, aside from the five bakeries, most prominent of which is Daddy's Home Bread haus dahil sa lokasyon nito at the heart of the town plaza.

Ang dating Magallon Diagnostic Center ay Pakileno capital na having bought and operated by the San Gaspars, hence, the trade name St. Jasper, sosyal for San Gaspar, ala Villa Someros.

Villa Someros Resort hotel is still the best place for classy reception and impeccable dining, along with Beatles' Place Resto in barangay Bano naman for smaller affairs and receptions.

Ping-As Update

Very tiring but an exhilarating experiece and worth remembering.

Sangguniang Bayan '07

Nakakahinayang nga lang na yung mga tumatrabaho at tunay na statesman did not seek re-election tulad nina Dr. Dennis John Baja, Edmon Antoni at Reymar M. Sabeñano na mid-last year migrated to Canada with wife and daughter.

Musik Revival

Barangay Development

Tapos na ang Eleksyon! Eh ano ngayon?!?

***Beautification- Flower or ornamental sa paso
***Peace and Order-
***Garden sa paso- talong,kamatis,sitaw sa lata.
***Youth Sports Development- badminton,basketbol 3 on 3 competion and calesthenics.
Others are reading tutorial, arts and other hobby development.

Fiesta in Down Under

Barangay Election Results

Here are the results of Pakil Barangay Elections.
Thanks Hernan for sharing the results.

I hope we can also see the names of all kagawads of every Barangay.

DORADO:...............? BUENO

BANILAN:.............. ?

RIZAL................... KAP. BONKANAY

MATIKIW.............. ?

The Barangay is the representation or microcosm of the town. Whatever progress or decay the barangay has reflects the general image of the town and it's leadership.

Let us support all of our “little mayors” and their kagawads to achieve not only their goals but to improve the way of life in the barangays. That's a big challenge huh!

Pakil Fiesta '07 in Las Vegas

See More Pakil Fiesta Pictures in Las Vegas (from Pakilenos Photobucket acct.)

A Piece of History

We all know Jose P Rizal as the national hero of the Philippines. Rizal was a well educated member of the Ilustrados during his time. But did you know that he was a constant visitor of Pakil?

Read the article on "The Man who Married Rizal's Girlfriend." The article was written in The Chronicle magazine dated July 14, 1962. This is a piece of history that is not written in most of the books about Rizal.

One of Pakil's Pride Pianist

LUIS P.VITO (+)

Juan Vito made his wife and relatives promise that they would bring Luis, his only son who was 7 years old then, to the Colegio de Tiples in Manila as he lay dying. When his mother remarried, his grandmother took him to Manila and gave him to the Spanish priests who ran a music school to teach little boys to sing the Latin Mass for the Archbishop’s daily mass offerings.

When Luis turned 15 his voice changed and he could no longer stay in the choir. He was made to choose, be a priest or teach younger children to sing or leave. He chose to leave and joined his mother and step-father. He went to A. Mabini Elementary School and became the official school pianist before classes started and at the end of the day.

One day, his step-father, a trumpet player, was offered to join 6 other musicians to play at a night club in Tsentsin, China. He refused the offer and instead recommended his son, Luis, who then played violin and piano. After couple of rehearsals, he was accepted and they left Manila.

In China, life was tough and cold. He had no warm clothing and packed newspapers in his underclothes to keep warm while walking to work. After brief stint , the group disbanded. Few returned home to Manila. Luis and three others decided they would try their luck in Shanghai where they all went. He immediately got hired as a pianist in a
“Honky Tonk” night club. After several job offers, he finally joined a well-known band.

In the early ‘30’s, the Chinese Civil War(between the Nationalists and Communists) displaced a lot of people. Luis and a room-mate Manuel got caught in the bombings and taken to International Settlement where they found a Filipino family who took them in.
The couple had 7 children, the second was a girl in her teens and still in school. Luis eventually fell in love with her and asked for her hand in marriage. Because of worsening situation, the American Consulate ordered evacuation of Filipino women and children back to the Philippines. Fely’s mother refused to leave. Soon after, Luis and Fely were married at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hongkew. They left Shanghai for Hongkong where Luis was offered to join the Peninsula Hotel band. Their first child, a boy named Reynaldo was born in 1933. Two years later, the couple with their baby returned to Shanghai. Since it was hard to find jobs, Luis decided to form and lead his own band of 7 men. He became successful after the birth of their second child, a girl named Patricia. Luis fondly referred to her as his “good luck” charm.

In 1937, at the height of the Chinese Civil War, strict evacuation of all Filipino women and children was ordered by the American Consulate. The men remained. Many wives did not want to leave without their husbands. So when the last available ship, the President Hoover left, Luis, Fely, their 2 children and Fely’s two brothers were on board with only a small suitcase. Life in Manila then was difficult, so Luis took his family to his hometown in Laguna where they opened a small store and he taught piano.

In 1945, the Americans recaptured the Philippines from the Japanese. Luis went back to Manila with his family. He successfully led his own band and became popularly known as “ LOU VITO”. His band entertained US troops featuring his two children who danced the boogie woogie, samba, rhumba, tango and many more. His band was the last USO band to entertain the wounded. A US Air Force officer offered him to form a big band and play for the Officers Club at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam. His 17 piece orchestra had two vocalists. They were there for 6 years (1950-1956). From Guam, Luis returned to the Far East and played at several Hotels and Night Clubs in Manila, Hongkong, Macao and Thailand.

In 1967, Luis and Fely migrated to the United States of America and became citizens after 5 years. Their two children got married and had their own families. They too came to the States and lived with them in San Francisco. Luis became choir director for the Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Occasionally, he would lead small band for local Filipino affairs after one of which caused him to suffer from a massive heart attack. Within 36 hours, he died with his wife and children by his side.

Luis Vito, better known as Lou Vito, was a versatile pianist and respected band leader. He was a good God-fearing man. His body is buried at the Cypress Lawn Cemetery in San Francisco.

Marching Band Music

One of Pakil Music Program (PMP) AZ member - Tim- a member of Mesquite high school band playing flute. The competition was sponsored by ASU. It was a statewide gathering of marching bands.

There will be another band competition this weekend,Nov 3, '07. Their band will perform 6:30pm at Riverside Community College-Riverside,California. To all Pakilenos residing in that area if you have a chance you can watch it. Watching band play and march at the same time is very exciting and entertaining. Watch those kids play heavy metal, latin, pop to classical music. It is just amazing.

Not a Replacement

Just a clarification that this blog in not the replacement of the Pakil forum. The globalpakil blog is just a venue where you can see collections of Pakil links,photos Pakileno news, and some personal commentaries. I don't have any set of rules at this moment yet and would like to stay that way- free flowing.

I understand there is a need of a proper venue where we can share our thoughts and experiences, discuss and brainstorm ideas for programs and projects to help our community or just simply spend time in casual chit chat.

Communication or shall I say right or effective communication is a vital component of any group or organization's success.The ability to effectively speak, read, and write in a proper forum will determine the quality of communication and hopefully bear good results. It does not mean that we all agree to one's idea but at least we respect each other's opinion. As the saying goes "unity in diversity".....enough with that talk. :-)

I hope we can find our online forum home soon.

Pakil Online Home

At this moment Pakilenos is temporarily "homeless". I am referring to an "Online Forum" home. But I am pretty sure Pakilenos (people of the town -Pakil) community online will find a permanent online home soon. After starting a free intranet sometime in year 2000 that gets the support of Pakilenos residing in different part of the world.The intranet re-acquainte/ reconnects us all to one another. The advancement of technology thru the internet and telecommunication seems to bring everyone closer. By just a push of buttons on your computer keyboard you immediately knows what is happening to your friends (old and new ones) relatives and kababayans.

I created this blog not to talk about my personal stories.(maybe if there is something interesting in my personal life I'll share it to the world...or maybe not :-). Hopefully this blog will be the connection of some if not all of us (Pakilenos) on what's going on in Pakil community globally. I will try to update it as much as I could as time permits. Feel free to post any news, updates and any information you think is appropriately beneficial to the community.

You can check this site for Pakil links and news updates too.
